Summary

We at Courtney are looking for an experienced and dynamic Special Educational Needs and Disabilities teaching assistant.

The ideal SEND Teaching Assistant should: • Have strong knowledge and skills of working in small groups/ 1:1 with children with high special educational needs. • A good standard of general education, to include literacy and numeracy skills equivalent to NVQ2 in English and Maths. • Good interpersonal skills with both adults and children. • NVQ 3 for Teaching Assistants or other relevant qualification with some practical experience of working with children, or; A good understanding/previous experience of working with children in an educational context with evidence of relevant training in the appropriate age range or curriculum/learning area. • Ability to use ICT effectively to support pupils’ learning. • Working knowledge of national/foundation stage curriculum and other relevant learning programmes/strategies. • Must be willing to undertake further professional development.
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will: • Support children individually, in groups, or across the class to access the curriculum and achieve success. • Working closely with class teachers to raise the learning and attainment of children with high needs. • Provide personal care to ensure every child can access school life fully. • Support with adaptive provision to meet children’s needs on Educational Health Care Plans (EHCP). • Make a positive contribution to the lives of children, the team and the wider school community. • Be compassionate and an awareness of attachment needs • You will show a good understanding of children’s development and take a lead in organising tasks which enable personalised targets to be met.
