Come and join the growing West Town Lane staff.We are looking to appoint to a caring and committed Teaching Assistant (TA) to support a visually impaired (VI) child currently in Year 4.We are a large, friendly, highly supportive school with excellent staff retention and opportunities for professional development. We pride ourselves on providing a happy, nurturing environment for children and adults. Our children are polite and friendly and behaviour in the school is extremely positive. Our school grounds offer children space to run and play and encourage adventure!
The successful candidate will:
• facilitate 1:1 visual curriculum access, working alongside the class teacher
• adapt learning resources and have a willingness to learn about visual impairment
• ensure the safety and well-being of all children
• work as part of a team: including the wider school community and external agencies
• be committed and passionate about inclusive education
• welcome the opportunity to learn new skills, such as braille, guiding a blind child and adapting resources to provide a tactile curriculum, using technology
• be keen to learn braille and use a braille machine (training will be provided for this as well as for using technology to support a blind child)
• promote independence and support social and emotional development
• demonstrate our school valuesThis Role is 16.5 hours per week, over 3 daysFull time hours are 8.30am until 3.30pm. Visits to the school are welcomed and positively encouraged so that you can meet our wonderful children and staff. These can be arranged by appointment so please get in touch.
The Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the safety and welfare of children and young people. All staff and volunteers are expected to share this commitment and all appointments will be subject to appropriate vetting, including an enhanced DBS disclosure check.
