Job Summary: Facilitate the swift, effective, and precise distribution of medications to patients while supporting the maintenance of optimal financial oversight of the dispensary. Dispensing Responsibilities: Accurately and safely dispense prescribed medications in compliance with NHS regulations and ethical guidelines. 1. Accurately dispense acute prescriptions. 2. Fulfil repeat prescription requests received via electronic means, or deliveries from outlying areas. 3. Update patients repeat prescription records as per doctors instructions. 4. Handle private prescription dispensing. 5. Process blacklisted prescriptions, including pricing and appropriate documentation/recording. 6. Maintain cleanliness and organisation in the dispensary area. 7. Operate and manage prescription collection through the Pharmaself24 Dispensing Kiosk. 8. Ensure accurate entry of patient details and payment profiles on the Pharmaself Manager platform. 9. Actively promote and use the Pharmaself24 Dispensing Kiosk, and assist in identifying areas for process improvement and increased efficiency. 10. Maintain precise records of dispensed medications, patient information, and prescription history. 11. Adhere to all pharmaceutical laws, regulations, and industry standards to ensure patient safety and legal compliance. Prescription Management: 1. Accept prescription repeat requests in various formats, including written and online submissions. 2. Address patient inquiries related to prescriptions and provide instructions as directed by physicians. 3. Generate prescriptions as needed. 4. Thoroughly review prescriptions, promptly flagging any irregularities to the lead GP for attention. 5. Verify the accuracy and completeness of prescriptions, ensuring they are valid and appropriate for the patient. 6. Provide information and guidance to patients on medication usage, side effects, and any related inquiries. Stock Control: Manage theinventory management, including ordering supplies and monitoring medication expiry dates. 1. Place orders for the appropriate quantities of supplies through the wholesaler's computer system. 2. Inspect incoming goods upon delivery and maintain records of essential product details. 3. Arrange the return of incorrect items to the wholesalers. 4. Organise and stock shelves, refrigerators, and storage areas using a rotation method. 5. Regularly remove expired stock from shelves, refrigerators, and storage areas. 6. Properly dispose of unused returned medications. 7. Maintain the security and accurate recording of Controlled Drugs. Other Responsibilities: 1. Foster a collaborative work environment with fellow dispensers in the shared role as well as with clinicians in the practice. 2. Collaborate with our dedicated team of healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive patient care. 3. Maintain ongoing awareness of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and adhere to these standards. 4. Stay updated on IT systems and required updates relevant to this position. Health & Safety: Maintain a clean, organised, and hygienic work environment, following safety protocols. The post-holder will take a proactive role in implementing and leading the full spectrum of health and safety and infection control measures, as outlined in the practice's Health & Safety policy, Health & Safety manual, and Infection Control policy, along with published procedures. These responsibilities include (but are not limited to): 1. Following personal security protocols within the workplace in accordance with practice guidelines. 2. Ensuring personal compliance with proper hand hygiene practices. 3. Employing appropriate infection control procedures to maintain clean, tidy, and sterile work areas, ensuring safety and hazard-free conditions. Taking action to address any deficiencies or promptly reporting them to the relevant management. 4. Actively identifying and promptly reporting health and safety hazards as well as infection hazards upon recognition. 5. Participating in regular infection control training sessions. 6. Demonstrating an understanding of medicine waste management, encompassing collection, handling, segregation, container management, storage, and disposal. 7. Familiarity with spillage control procedures. Safeguarding: All staff will receive regular training on safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and are expected to actively promote safeguarding in their daily activities. This includes: 1. Remaining vigilant for potential indicators of abuse or neglect. 2. Knowing how to respond to concerns in accordance with local policies. 3. Familiarising themselves with practice and local safeguarding policies. 4. Identifying the Safeguarding Lead in the Practice, currently Dr. Barton. Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS): This job description has been reviewed and assessed by the Practice Manager. The role of Dispenser at Nettlebed Surgery does not require a Disclosure and Barring Service criminal records check. Qualifications: - Previous experience as a Dispenser in a healthcare setting. - NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent qualification. - Strong attention to detail and accuracy in dispensing medications. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. - Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment. - Knowledge of NHS regulations and dispensing procedures is a plus.
