Director of Finance & Resources

Isle of Wight College, Newport

Competitive Salary and Benefits including 35 days holiday plus bank holidays

Flexible hybrid working available

Open to candidates from within or outside Further Education (FE)

The Isle of Wight College is entering an exciting new phase of development, with a renewed commitment to financial strength, exceptional learner experience and long-term sustainability. To support this journey, we are seeking an outstanding senior finance leader to join our Senior Leadership Team.

This is a pivotal role for the College - but it's also an opportunity.

Alongside experienced Directors of Finance & Resources, we are equally open to appointing an exceptional Director of Finance or a Financial Controller ready to step up. If you bring ambition, integrity, and the ability to lead high-performing teams, we would be delighted to hear from you.

The Role

As Director of Finance & Resources, you will provide strategic leadership across all finance and resources functions, shaping the financial future of the College and ensuring our estates, systems and infrastructure enable staff and students to thrive.

You will:

· Lead the development of robust financial and estates strategies that secure long-term sustainability.

· Own financial planning, budgeting, monitoring and statutory reporting, ensuring the College remains in outstanding financial health.

· Operate as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, offering strategic insight and financial guidance to support innovation, growth and informed decision-making.

· Collaborate closely with the CEO, COO, SLT and Heads across the College to deliver organisational objectives.

· Provide leadership across estates, health and safety, and compliance to ensure a safe, effective and engaging learning environment.

· Champion accountability, transparency and continuous improvement throughout the organisation.

This is a role with influence, visibility and purpose - one that will suit a leader who enjoys shaping strategy as much as driving operational excellence.

About You

We're looking for someone who combines technical mastery with strong leadership, collaboration and the ability to drive meaningful change.

Essential Requirements

· Full CCAB qualification (CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA, ICAEW).

· Evidence of ongoing continuous professional development.

· Extensive senior-level finance experience, within or outside Further Education.

· Proven ability to lead teams, manage change and deliver strategic objectives.

· Highly proficient with Excel, data analysis and complex accounting systems.

· Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder-management skills.

· Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and professional development.

We welcome applications from:

· Experienced Directors of Finance & Resources looking for a new challenge

· Directors of Finance ready to broaden their portfolio

· High-performing Financial Controllers seeking a supported step into a director-level role

· Sector entrants with strong alignment and transferable expertise

If you can bring strategic clarity, financial leadership, and the ability to motivate and empower teams, we will support you to thrive.

Why Join the Isle of Wight College?

· A progressive, learner-centred environment

· A supportive SLT and a culture grounded in collaboration

· Opportunities to shape long-term strategy and drive organisational improvement

· Enhanced flexibility through hybrid working

· A role that genuinely impacts learners, staff and the wider community
