This is an exciting opportunity for a driven and ambitious individual who has an interest in Active and Sustainable Travel to work within a large and multi-faceted team to drive forward the council's sustainable travel agenda, which includes the vision for Leicestershire to become a county where walking and cycling are safe, accessible and obvious choices for short journeys, and a natural part of longer journeys, helping to deliver healthier, greener communities.
The work of the team includes the promotion of cycling, walking, wheeling, car-sharing and public transport, the management of the council’s supported passenger transport network and the council’s extensive Public Rights of Way network.
About the Role

You will be responsible for assisting the Team Manager to develop and deliver commissioning strategies for integrated sustainable transport across all modes including Enhanced Partnership and local passenger transport provision, Leicestershire’s PROW network, administrative support for Blue Badge appeals, travel planning and information that promotes the safe and sustainable use of the transport network throughout Leicestershire. The role involves assisting the Team Manager and senior officers to deliver the day-to-day team business programmes and processes.
- The role is responsible for ensuring services are delivered effectively for the benefit of the people of Leicestershire, fostering strong partnerships with statutory, voluntary, private agencies, and local communities. It involves delivering activities efficiently, preparing technical reports for stakeholders, and supporting performance management through contribution to departmental business planning. Additionally, the position requires safeguarding and managing information securely, including reporting any breaches in compliance.
About You
To apply for this post, you must have:
- Good standard of education including English & mathematics GCSE Grade 4-9 (or equivalent)
- Demonstrable work experience in a public focused business with an understanding of political awareness.
- Good organisational skills with a willingness to be flexible, learn and undertake a variety of different tasks.
- Problem solving, and collecting, collating, and manipulating statistical information/data
- Good written and verbal communication skills including handling customer enquiries to a high standard whilst demonstrating tact, assertiveness and diplomacy
- Good numerical and analysis skills including experience of using Microsoft Office systems (excel, access, etc), and attention to detail
- Awareness and appreciation of transportation issues as they relate to the service area, with a particular focus on active and sustainable travel
