About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join the Consolidation Team within the Department of Finance. This is a critical role offering exceptional exposure to government accounting processes and collaboration with multiple stakeholders across the public sector.You will play a key part in the consolidation of accounts for eight Arm's Length Bodies (ALBs), ensuring accuracy and compliance at both interim and year-end stages. This position provides a unique opportunity to gain insight into the Executive Office (TEO) and contribute to high-profile financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of 6-month, interim, and annual consolidated accounts.
- Compile Whole of Government Accounts, reconciling transactions and balances across UK government departments.
- Liaise with ALBs to collect and review account packs for consolidation purposes.
- Provide financial advice and guidance to ALBs, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.
- Manage SEUPB Peace IV and Peace Plus expenditure and accruals.
- Prepare and upload month-end journals and respond to audit queries from the Northern Ireland Audit Office.
- Support budgeting, reporting, and grant accounting processes.
- Communicate effectively with external bodies and work closely with audit teams.
Essential Criteria
- Qualified Accountant with at least one year post-qualification experience gained within the last five years in a finance or accounts preparation environment.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and experience in financial systems.
- Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with Oracle or similar ERP systems.
