Do you have an interest in the water environment? Do you enjoy working with data and evidence? We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with good communication and information management skills to join the Water Resources Integrated Environment Planning team at the Environment Agency.

You will help to protect and improve the quantity of water available for wildlife, people and future generations. You will be supported by Water Resource Specialists and work with others to gather, analyse, interpret, and share evidence to maximise environmental outcomes and manage our highest risks.

Depending on your skills, interests, and team priorities, you will contribute towards the following activities carried out within our team:

• Management of local data and water resource information
• Data handling such as analysis, mapping, and modelling
• Sharing and communicating evidence with others (internally/ externally)
• With the support of others, lead on specific areas/projects for the team
• Support / lead on strategic planning activities such as input to local plans (Water Resource Management Plan for example)
• providing local advice on water resource licence applications
• Contribute to drought planning and response
• Seek and support integrated outcomes through partnership work with others
• Provide technical administrative support to other team members

The team

The Integrated Environment Planning (IEP) team is predominantly a water planning team with specialists in water resources, water quality and catchment planning.

Working with area operational teams and national colleagues, we commission, analyse and share data, and produce the environmental plans that inform and drive East Midland’s area priorities.
Our friendly team of advisors are at the heart of environmental decision making, facilitating integrated actions to solve complex problems.

Experience/skills required

You will ideally have a degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant environmental discipline. Your broad knowledge and understanding and the ability to learn quickly will give you a platform to become an effective Water Resources Officer.

You will be able to demonstrate some of the following:

Good organisational skills and the ability to plan, track, deliver and monitor work as well as managing multiple priorities and competing demands.
A broad range of technical knowledge together with strong interpersonal and team-working skills.
Good research / analysis skills, supporting and ability to make proportionate, evidence- based inferences/ proposals from information.
Work as part of a team sharing skills and experience to deliver the best outcomes for the environment.
Managing multiple priorities and competing demands.
Working & communicating with a range of customers and partners.
Experience of using data manipulation and visualisation tools such as Excel and ArcGIS or Power BI.
