Crynodeb
The East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre located at Glenfield Hospital for the adult serviceand the Leicester Royal Infirmary for the paediatric service, and sits within the Women’s andChildren’s ClinicalManagement Group.Itis amultidisciplinary servicededicated to themanagement of patients of all ages with congenital heart disease for the whole of the EastMidlands; i.e. Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, South Derbyshire, most of Lincolnshire, WestCambridgeshire(Peterborough),Northamptonshire,andpartsofWarwickshire.Thepopulation referral base for congenital heart disease is around 4.8 million and growing. Thecollaborationofcolleaguesfrompaediatricandadultcongenitalcardiology,congenitalcardiac surgery and paediatric intensive care to form a single seamless service has resultedin a safe, productive and happy working environment to the benefit of our patients. A fullrange of services are provided with the exception of transplantation.
· To achieve the minimum standard of 125 surgical cases per surgeon as set out in theNHSEservice specifications
· To participate in the paediatric cardiothoracic and ECMO on call rota’s at a frequency of 1in 4.
· Tohelpensurestabilityof servicedeliveryfor bothsurgeryandECMO
· To participate in and instigate audit activities within the directorate relevant to congenitalcardiacsurgery,orECMO.
· To sustain and develop teaching and research in conjunction with the University ofLeicester, and to participate in and fulfil the requirements of the Royal College ofSurgeons CPD scheme.
To participate in and continue to develop services for children and adults with congenital heartdisease in the East Midlands, working with existing team of paediatric and adult congenitalcardiologists,surgeons,intensivistsandanaesthetists.
· Work closely with our partners at network centres team to ensure communication is timelyandefficient.
· Superviseandtrainjuniormedicalstaffinallaspects ofcongenitalsurgery.
· Worktohelpdeliver theNHSECongenitalHeartDiseaseStandards&Specifications.
· Toencourageamultidisciplinaryapproachtothetreatmentofpatients.
· Tosharewithcolleaguesresponsibilityfortheday-to-daymanagementofpatients.
· ToactivelyparticipateinbothdepartmentalandTrustmattersconcerningClinicalGovernance andaudit

· In line with GMC Good Medical Practice it is the responsibility of the post holder toensurethatalldutiesarecarriedouttothehighestpossiblestandard,andinaccordancewith currentqualityinitiatives withinthe areaofwork.
· The post-holder is expected to respond in a timely fashion to legitimate requests fromTrustofficers–thismightinclude investigations ofincidentsorcomplaints.
· Takepart inmultidisciplinarycaseconferences.
· The post-holder is expected to participate in teaching and training of junior staff andother clinical staff groups. The appointee will also have supervision responsibilities forjunior medical staff within the specialty. If appropriate the post-holder will be named inthe contract of junior staff as the person responsible for overseeing their training andasan initialsource ofadvice tosuch doctorsregarding theircareers.
