We have a fantastic opportunity for a Back End Software Engineer to join our Digital Services Lab Team to bring technology expertise and vision.

The API & Digital Services Platform is a key enabling and highly collaborative service for Lloyds Banking Group. It brings together several functions as a unified platform and is focused on both existing and emerging digital services. The API & Digital Services Platform Team are enabling the shift from a centralised, monolithic model to a federated one - where platforms can operate safely, implement change independently, and confidently discover, build, and deploy high-quality APIs.

Within the API & Digital Services Platform, the Digital Services Lab deliver digital services enabling resilient platforms beyond the current monolithic platform. Known for its collaboration, this team enjoy using new technologies and sharing ideas across Lloyds Banking Group.

We're looking for a driven Back End Software Engineer with a real passion for technology, a dedication to growth and development, and to protecting live service for customers. They will join a team that supports all the internet banking customer journeys. Improving the engineering experience and growing pace is a core aspect of our strategy to deliver great outcomes to our customers.

This is an opportunity to lead digital modernisation in the Digital Services Lab, while realising the Group's ambition to modernise digital capabilities harnessing the efficiencies of microservices and migrating to a new version of Google.

Day to day, you will

  • Lead technical discussions with collaborators to identify needs and effectively implement solutions.
  • Craft and build backend solutions using infrastructure as code.
  • Prototype and develop reusable components.
  • Write automated test scripts and perform code reviews.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal, external, and 3rd party teams to deliver world-class solutions.
  • Provide leadership, education, and mentoring to junior colleagues.

What you'll need:

Essential

  • Experience of Back End Software Engineering
  • Proven experience with Java; with the ability to code complex functionalities
  • Demonstrable "hands on" experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) inc:
  • Containerisation & Kubernetes,
  • CI/CD pipelines, and building secure solutions
  • Spanner DB.
  • Knowledge of database management (e.g. DB2 and / or SQL)
  • Strong knowledge of RESTful APIs
  • Proven leadership and mentoring experience.


Desirable

  • Expertise in Infrastructure as Code. E.g. Terraform
  • Experience in Kafka
  • Knowledge of Dynatrace


And any experience of these would be really useful:

  • Prior experience leading teams
  • Financial services industry background
