We are currently recruiting for a Long-Term SEN Teaching Assistant position within a primary school in Bromley. This is a rewarding role supporting pupils with a range of additional and complex needs.

SEN Teaching Assistant – Long Term Position
Location: Bromley
Start: ASAP / Immediate
Hours: Full-time

Main Purpose of the Role
• Support the SLT and class teacher in planning and delivering high-quality learning for pupils with special educational needs.
• Provide general assistance in managing the classroom environment and supporting pupils’ academic, social and emotional development.
• Promote inclusion, ensuring all pupils have equal opportunities to engage and progress.
• Provide classroom cover where required, delivering curriculum activities under the teacher’s direction.

Key Responsibilities
• Safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils.
• Assist with planning, preparation and delivery of lessons across the curriculum.
• Support pupils’ learning, behaviour, independence and wellbeing under teacher supervision.
• Prepare and organise classroom and outdoor learning resources.
• Act as a positive role model, setting high expectations for behaviour and engagement.
• Provide tailored 1:1 and group support for pupils with SEN, including meeting physical and personal care needs when required.
• Support pupils in working towards EHCP outcomes and individual learning targets.
• Encourage cooperative learning, participation and positive relationships among pupils.
• Supervise pupils during breaktimes and lunchtimes as required.
• Follow safeguarding, health & safety, SEND, inclusion and data protection procedures.
• Attend training, meetings and development opportunities as needed.
• Support emotional and social needs, modelling positive behaviour and helping pupils regulate.
• Assist with school trips and off-site learning activities.
• Help pupils who are distressed, unwell or unsettled.
• Support basic literacy, numeracy and ICT development and adapt resources to meet individual needs.

Qualifications & Experience
• Level 2 or 3 Supporting Teaching & Learning, Level 3 Diploma in Childcare & Education, or similar qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
• GCSEs (A*–C / 9–4) in English and Maths.
• Experience working with children, ideally including SEN.
• Understanding of classroom roles and responsibilities.

• Strong literacy and numeracy skills.
• Good organisational skills and ability to follow routines.
• Ability to build effective relationships with pupils and adults.
• Understanding of pupil needs and how to adapt support effectively.
• Knowledge of curriculum areas relevant to the role.
• Excellent verbal communication and active listening skills.
• Ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
• Good ICT skills and confidence using technology to support learning.
• Awareness of safeguarding procedures and requirements.
• Ability to observe, record and provide constructive feedback on pupil progress.
