Summary
JBA has secured a major five-year water quality modelling framework, for the AMP8 period, for a water company in England. We are aiming to expand this work with further companies in future. We have a very well established workstream and reputation delivering Water Cycle Studies for local authorities. A major component of this work is catchment modelling using SIMCAT part of the SAGIS-SIMCAT system. A Water Cycle Study also includes assessing water resources, supply and treatment required for future developments. We are looking for a candidate that enjoys the intricacies of numerical modelling and analysis. With the ability to communicate findings to our clients, including water companies, local authorities and the environmental regulator.

The job will involve:
• Building water quality models with MIKE+ and analysing results to industry standards and preparing client reports.
• Updating SIMCAT catchment models, running simulations, processing and analysing results.
• Completing Water Cycle Study assessments and preparing technical reports.
• Using the Environment Agency’s discharge modelling tool – River Quality Planning (RQP).
• Assessing road discharges with National Highways water quality risk assessment tool (HEWRAT).
• Liaising with stakeholders such as the Environment Agency, Natural England, local authorities, water companies and National Highways.
• Write code-based efficiency tools.
The team member we are looking for:
We are looking for a candidate with experience in water quality modelling together with experience in collaborative working, with effective interpersonal skills and able to communicate with colleagues, clients and stakeholders. We need a flexible team player, able to work with different project teams both locally and across remote offices.
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in geography, environmental science, geoscience, chemistry or related field. A master’s degree is not essential but advantageous if related to the following subjects – water management, water resource management, hydrology.
Essential attributes for the role:
• Have experience modelling water quality
• Good understanding of hydrodynamics and water quality processes
• Effective technical writing skills
• Proficient in GIS (ArcGIS/QGIS)
• Be collaborative, self-motivated, and an effective communicator.
Desirable attributes for the role:
• Ideally experience with MIKE+/MIKE11, SAGIS-SIMCAT, RQP
• Experience of other hydraulic modelling packages (Tuflow, Flood modeller, Infoworks ICM)
• Coding experience – Python/R
• Experience of hydrological/rainfall runoff modelling
• Working towards chartered status with appropriate professional body
• Understanding of water company plans; water resource/drainage and wastewater management plans.
