Serco is looking for a Bike Mechanic to work in the London Cycle Hire Workshop carrying out Repairs, Services, Quality Control and any other Bicycle & e-Bike related task. The role of a mechanic is essential to ensuring the correct volume of Bicycles are available for hire in London and that they’re safe to use. To achieve this you must have the correct bicycle competency to become an expert in managing both of Serco BMS’ public bicycles. This means you can deliver Repairs, Services, and QC quickly and to a safe standard. You will work in a vibrant, dedicated team on the front line of one of the world’s most used and popular Cycle Hire Schemes.
Key Accountabilities

- Carry out annual Services for the London Cycle Hire fleet including e-Bike
- Carry out reactive repairs for the London Cycle Hire fleet including e-Bike
- Perform Quality Control checks for Service and Repair bicycles/e-bikes and fully understand the different standards of both, responsible for Bicycle quality leaving the depot.
- Delivering Services, Repairs and Quality Control quickly and safely, with the competency to on average complete minimum output targets.
- Where required, support key pre-bicycle checks for new bicycles
- Where required, support hard decommission of bicycles, including breaking the bicycle down and salvaging the maximum number of parts.
- Provide vital feedback loop to Operations Managers and Chief Mechanic, including, but not limited to, Tool issues, Depot H&S issues, part trends, and general Bicycle feedback such as any possible trends in damage and wear of the fleet.
- Complete all electronic logging of work and accurate logging of part usage.
- Responsible for matters of Health and Safety with respect to yourself and others at all times.
- Responsible for performing all duties in-line with all in-force statutory and regulatory (external), as well as Serco/Cycle Hire (internal) specific policies and procedures. Including, but not limited to, Health and Safety, ISO9001-2008, Serco Management System (SMS), IT and Security, Highways and Environmental.
- Act at all times as a role model for Serco/Cycle Hire, our clients and sponsors and wear correct uniform and identification at all times.
- Ensure that any breaches of security, fraud, vandalism and abuse relating to Serco/Cycle Hire assets and staff are identified and reported to avoid and reduce crime.
- Satisfactorily complete and pass all mandatory and refresher training; including periodic checks and assessments.
- Be expected to meet specific individual performance targets.
- Complete other duties as directed by the Mechanical Team Leader.
- When required, support the refurbishment of wheel hubs, baskets and other parts where necessary to ensure that the other workshop mechanics are able to maintain bicycles.
