Hours: 37 per week, Monday to Friday, all year around
Salary: Grade 5, scale point range 11 - 17, £14.59 - £16.08 per hour, £28,142 - £31,022 per annum

As part of the Facilities Team, you will play a crucial role in supporting our schools—especially our primary schools in the Midsomer Norton/Radstock are ensuring they remain safe, well-maintained and welcoming places for children to learn and thrive. We are seeking a proactive and skilled Mobile Facilities Operative to help maintain and enhance our school sites. This is a mobile role, requiring travel between multiple primary schools within the Midsomer Norton area. Your work will directly improve the daily experience of pupils, staff and visitors, helping create safe, clean and inspiring spaces for learning. A full, clean driving licence is essential, as the role requires daily travel using the Trust’s maintenance van. This position includes opening and closing school buildings at the start and end of the day when required.
As our Mobile Facilities Operative, you will:
Respond to routine and emergency maintenance requests across Trust sites.
Support the Site Managers with a rolling programme of maintenance and school improvements.
Carry out hands-on maintenance, repairs and minor building works (carpentry, plumbing, painting, etc.).
Maintain tools, equipment and ensure the Trust maintenance van is kept clean and roadworthy.
Liaise with contractors and other on-site professionals.
Act as a key-holder, supporting security procedures including school opening and closure.
Complete relevant risk assessments.
Use electronic devices (e.g. iPads, mobile phones) to receive tasks and record work.
Uphold confidentiality, Health & Safety and safeguarding expectations at all times.
Attend training, meetings and support school operations as required.
Your work will contribute directly to the safety, comfort and daily experience of hundreds of children and staff across our schools.
What We’re Looking For
Full, clean driving licence (required for this mobile role).
Strong practical skills (carpentry, plumbing, decorating, basic building repairs).
Ability to thrive in a busy, varied environment.
Reliable, adaptable, proactive and committed to high-quality work.
Good knowledge of Health & Safety requirements including safe working practices.
Ability to prioritise workload and respond quickly to urgent issues.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Comfortable using electronic devices to log work and communicate.
Physically able to carry out duties involving lifting, bending, working at height and handling equipment.
Willingness to travel daily between locations within the local geographical area.
Flexible with working patterns, including occasional extra hours.
