Summary
Location: Islington, North London
Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 per annum
Contract: Full-time, Term-time (34 weeks per year + occasional holiday weeks)
Reports to: Principal
About the Role
We are seeking a highly organised and proactive School Secretary to join this Montessori nursery in Islington. This is a pivotal role providing administrative support to the principal, management team, and teaching staff, ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the school.
The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for parents and visitors, manage essential school records, and support compliance with Ofsted and safeguarding requirements. This is a varied role where no two terms are the same, requiring flexibility, initiative, and a genuine passion for supporting children's education.
Key Responsibilities
*Act as the first point of contact for parents, staff, and external partners
*Answer and redirect phone calls and emails
*Schedule meetings, visits, and events
*Order office supplies, groceries, and weekly school lunches
*Maintain and update class lists, allergy records, and staff/child contact details
*Manage invoicing for school fees and Nursery Education Grant administration
*Liaise with external teachers for extra classes (Ballet, French, Yoga, Computers, Choir)
*Submit monthly expense reports and manage petty cash, cheque, and card payments
*Ensure school policies and procedures are up to date and compliant
*Organise training sessions and maintain filing systems
*Prepare reports and presentations for management
*Support the Principal with delegated duties and, when required, act in their absence

About You
We are looking for someone who is:
*Experienced in school administration and familiar with Ofsted and safeguarding legislation
*Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
*Confident using systems such as Xero for invoicing and receipts
*Professional, presentable, and able to build strong relationships with parents and staff
*Flexible and able to adapt to the changing needs of a busy school environment
*A team player who can also take initiative and lead when required
