Summary
Job title: Montessori Toddler Class Teaching Assistant
Teaching group: Age 2-3 years (Nursery)
Hours of work: 7:45am to 4:15 three days a week, 7:45am to 5:15 two days a week (students are in the class 8:15 to 3:15pm)

The roles require an approachable manner, welcoming nature and good communication. TA’s should be passionate about being an aid to the developmental of independence in the child.
Candidates must have or be willing to complete AMI Montessori TA training and hold a minimum of 2 years experience working with children.
Teaching assistants work with lead teacher(s) to prepare and maintain an orderly, attractive, and joyful environment. They do this both through assisting in the preparation of the physical environment and preparation of the human environment. Preparing the physical environment includes ensuring work areas are orderly, attractive and materials replenished. Preparing the human environment relates to the presence one brings to the school community. A positive attitude, calm and respectful manner and enthusiasm and joy for learning are essential. Working as a part of a team with all members of the school community to achieve the school aims and objectives.
TA’s provide another pair of observant, attentive eyes and ears. They are crucial in modelling courteous and respectful behaviour as well as contributing to the warm, supportive, and calm atmosphere that is the hallmark in Montessori classrooms. They assist children with meals, dressing and toileting / nappy changes.
They focus on the protection of work, through mindful actions and positive words. They Encourage purposeful and constructive activity, intervening when and if necessary.
TA’s support children to make developmental choices, based on observations made and communication with Lead Teacher. They help with completion of cycles of work, according to ability of child. TA’s Provide additional challenges and re-engagement when the need arises, based on subtle communication with Lead Teacher. They Encourage love and value of the environment through ongoing maintenance and encouraging the children to be involved too. TA’s hold small re-directional groups throughout the morning, as needed and are involved in the planning and delivery of extra curricular activities.
