As an Interaction Designer at DWP Digital, you'll design simple, accessible solutions used by millions every day, working closely with researchers, developers, and other design experts. You'll turn insights into prototypes, champion inclusion, and collaborate openly to create consistent, user-focused experiences. If you're passionate about design that matters and want room to grow, this is the place for you.

DWP. Digital with Purpose.

We are looking for an Interaction Designer to join our community of tech experts in DWP Digital.

We're using fresh ideas and leading-edge tech to build and maintain digital solutions that will be used by nearly every person in the UK, every day and at key moments in their lives.

DWP is the UK's largest government department. We help people into work, and make payments worth over £195bn a year to support and empower millions of people.

The scale of what we do is extraordinary, and our purpose is unique. We'd love you to join us.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

  • Evidence-Based Design - You can work collaboratively with others to design solutions based on evidence, identifying gaps in knowledge and ensuring user needs are met.
  • Prototyping Expertise - You have experience using a variety of prototyping tools and techniques to explore and validate design concepts.
  • Clear Communication & Collaboration - You can present your work confidently, explain design decisions in a way that is easy to understand, and actively listen to feedback from stakeholders and team members.
  • Accessibility & Inclusive Design - You have a proven track record of designing with accessibility in mind, demonstrating familiarity with WCAG 2.2 guidelines and consistently meeting AA standards.
  • Open Working & Engagement - You work in the open, engaging others throughout the design process to build shared understanding and transparency.

You and your role

We're looking for Interaction Designers to help create services that are simple, fast, and accessible for everyone. At DWP Digital, you'll use your skills to make a real difference, designing solutions that support millions of people every day. You'll work as part of a multi-disciplinary team alongside other user-centred design professionals, committed to delivering the best possible outcomes for all our users.

In this role, you'll use research and analytics to understand user needs and design solutions that meet them. You'll create prototypes, test ideas, and design with accessibility and inclusion at the heart of everything you do. Collaboration is key, you'll work openly with your team, share knowledge, and make sure your designs are consistent with the GOV.UK Design System.

You'll also contribute to the wider Interaction Design community within DWP and across government, helping to set standards and share best practice. We offer a highly supportive environment with plenty of opportunities to grow your skills and learn new ones.
