Summary

15 hours per week

We are seeking to recruit a Senior Library Assistant to work at Ryde Library for 15 hours a week.

The main responsibilities are:

To ensure that all library customers feel welcome, are helped to find the books and information they need and assisted to use the public computers
To assist the Library Supervisor in the day to day running of the library and managing and promoting the library’s book stock
To assist the Library Supervisor in making the building safe and secure, with all equipment functioning well
To organise and co-ordinate activities for adults and children
To promote the library to the local community and assist the Library Supervisor to ensure the service meets local needs
To deputise for the Library Supervisor in the organisation and supervision of library staff

The successful candidate must have:

Experience in working in a public library
Excellent customer focus and the ability to handle difficult situations
Research and information skills
The ability to take responsibility for cash handling and banking procedures
5 GCSEs or equivalent grade C/4 or above including Maths and English
IT skills
Basic staff supervision skills (advantageous)

The days worked will vary. We expect the post holder to work 7.5 hours on two days a week, Mondays to Saturday inclusive, usually between 8.30am and 7pm.
