We are working closely alongside with St.Helens MBC to assist with the appointment of a Clerical Officer on a 3-months contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: £12.64- £16.35 per hour
Summary:
St. Helens MBC is seeking a proactive and confident Clerical Officer to provide essential administrative and front-of-house support across the busy Licensing and Local Land Charges services. This role is crucial to addressing the significant backlog caused by a recent surge in applications and searches.The post holder will be the first point of contact for the public, managing challenging customer interactions, processing documentation, handling payments, and performing extensive database and triaging work. This is a highly administrative and customer-focused role that requires strong organisational skills and comfort with diverse IT systems, directly contributing to the efficient delivery of statutory and regulatory services within the borough.
Responsibilities:
Act as the first point of contact for the service by answering and efficiently triaging a high volume of telephone calls and managing shared email inboxes, escalating complex queries to appropriate officers.
Provide clerical support to the Local Land Charges Register team, assisting with the processing and organisation of searches (Personal Searches, LLC1s, and CON29Rs).
Perform general database work, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of information held within the main IT packages, notably Idox Uniform (for Licensing) and TLC (for Local Land Charges).
Duties include completing attendance sheets, and collecting, scanning, and securely saving documentation provided by taxi drivers as part of their ongoing application process (relating to safeguarding and disability awareness).
Comfortable using and navigating a wide range of IT packages, including dedicated licensing and LLC systems, in-house booking and payment systems, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Teams.
Essentials:
Good general standard of education, demonstrating competence in literacy and numeracy (e.g., GCSE level or equivalent vocational experience).
Proven experience working in a busy, high-volume administrative or clerical office environment.
Significant experience in a customer-facing role, including handling customer enquiries via telephone, email, and face-to-face.
Demonstrated experience of dealing with difficult or challenging customers confidently and professionally.
High level of competence and comfort using a wide range of IT packages, including MS Office Suite and database systems (training provided on bespoke systems like Idox Uniform and TLC).
Accurate data entry and meticulous record-keeping skills.
