Crynodeb
The Emergency Department at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital is an exciting and expanding department in one of the busiest and highest-performing non-elective trusts in the country. We are looking for enthusiastic, forward thinking team players to help build on the current excellent reputation and trust ethos.
We have several posts for experienced Emergency Medicine doctors (ST4+ equivalent) who wish to pursue a fellowship in an interest of their choosing. Fellowship postholders are awarded up to 20% of non-clinical fellowship time whilst the remaining time is spent providing Emergency Medicine care on the full rota (which is self-rostered) with the higher trainees and other senior clinical fellows.
Please indicate in the supporting information of the application form which one of the fellowship posts you would like to apply for. Alternatively standalone SCF ED posts are available without the fellowship option.
Successful candidates will be working on a full rota with regional higher speciality trainees, clinical fellows with special interest in research, ultrasound, sports medicine and simulation. We encourage self-rostering, and the rota incorporates CPD days and study leave opportunities. Our previous clinical fellows have been well supported clinically, academically and have successfully managed to join the ACCS or Higher Speciality EM training, or to obtain a CESR in Emergency Medicine.
The main service commitments of Senior Clinical Fellows will be, under the supervision of the Consultants, to supervise the FY2s and resident doctors, as well doing 'hands on' work alongside the other middle grades. The department has initiated new patterns of working to achieve the current targets and integral within these are the ‘lead middle grade' ‘resus lead’ and ‘rapid assessment team’ which are roles undertaken by the middle grade doctors within the department.
The middle grade would also be expected to run the daily review clinic. The Consultants are very committed to teaching and post-graduate training and will ensure appropriate opportunities for professional development. The appointee will be expected to already have or to have obtained during the course of the appointment certificates in ATLS and ALS. Most of the Consultants are Instructors on these courses.
We provide services from two main hospitals, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital, and a number of clinics across London and the South-East. We have over 6,000 members of staff that are PROUD to Care for nearly one million people. Both hospitals provide full clinical services, including full maternity, emergency and children’s, in addition to a range of community-based services across London, such as award-winning sexual health and HIV clinics.
We’re one of the best preforming Trusts in the country. We’re also one of the top trusts to work for – our staff say they’re engaged, motivated, and would recommend us as a place to work and receive treatment.
Our Trust has been rated by the Care Quality Commission as ‘Good’ in all five of the main domains of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led, giving an us overall rating of ‘Good’. We’ve also been awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating for ‘use of resources’ by an NHS Improvement inspection.
Our facilities are some of the best in the country. We have been investing around £10 million a year in our estate. We are currently spending £25 million on expanding our adult and neonatal critical care facilities at Chelsea and Westminster and redevelopment of our children’s unit at West Middlesex – in partnership with our charity, CW+ and generous donors.
The Emergency Department at Chelsea and Westminster Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is a dynamic, forward thinking, busy department with a strong focus on education, training and research. We currently see approximately 140,000 patients per year with a good case mix of critical care, majors, minor injuries and primary care patients. A £12 million rebuild in 2016 has resulted in a fit for purpose, light and airy department with an aesthetic design which is appreciated by patients and creates an attractive working environment for staff.
Applicants are invited to join our dynamic team of 17 Consultants and 52 resident EM doctors.
