Summary of role

As a Youth Safety Intervention Lead, you will be responsible for identifying, designing, and delivering targeted programs that educate youth on crucial fire, water, and road safety, significantly reducing their risks and empowering them with essential knowledge. You’ll also research and develop engaging resources to ensure our interventions are always impactful and effective.

Some of the things you’ll be doing

• Establish and maintain strong relationships with children and young people services within each Unitary Authority and other stakeholders to explore collaborative working opportunities, seek advice and support or deliver key interventions where appropriate.
• Participate in the formulation of internal practices and procedures regarding working with children and young people, to assist in the planning, delivering and evaluating of youth work interventions across the Service.
• Be responsible for promoting the safeguarding and welfare of vulnerable people through the processing of internal referrals to source external support, being diligent in related administration and escalating concerns when required.
• Maintain knowledge and awareness of current legislation and guidance which impacts the work of the department, raising changes/issues with the CYP manager as necessary to ensure a high quality of delivery of service.
• Be a point of contact within Risk Reduction for both internal and external departments and organisations, including liaising with the Corporate Communications team to give media soundbites when needed.
• Maintain a working knowledge and practices of the Juvenile Fire Setter Intervention Scheme in order to provide resilience to the core delivery team.
• Deliver training designed to improve the impact of intervention sessions and evidence the impact through quality assurance monitoring.

What we will need from you

Essential:

• A level 3 qualification relevant to the role (for example in education, youth work, child development, business administration, supervisory management).
• Good knowledge and understanding of the importance of robust safeguarding practices.
• Recent experience of practical teaching, youth work, or working with large groups of children and young persons.
• Able to quickly build rapport with children & young people and deal with individuals in an empathetic and confidential manner, including managing social and emotional behaviour.
• Able to identify relevant training and development needs and to devise/deliver appropriate solutions.
• A full UK driving license (Manual and Automatic)
• Strong stakeholder ethic with customer orientated approach.
• Enthusiastic about and committed to improving the life chances of children and young people.
• Adaptable with a flexible approach to work to meet business needs.

Desirable:

• Knowledge and awareness of the types of issues that affect young people and the relevant legislation, policy and good practice relating to addressing these.
• Experience of working within a statutory safeguarding environment.
• Successfully managing project work which engaged with a range of stakeholders.
• Delivery of effective training and presentations.
• Producing written documents which utilise data to propose, support or evaluate workstreams.

With effect from July 2023 legislation was amended to enable all Fire & Rescue Services to undertake standard DBS checks for all employees.  All job roles require a standard DBS check, with certain defined roles requiring an enhanced check.  These will be renewed throughout employment.
