This role is part of Calderdale’s ambition to ensure that Children, Young People and Families receive the right support at the right time. The role sits within Early Intervention and Targeted Support which offer a range of specialist services to young people aged 0-25 and their families who need additional support.
Calderdale Young Carers Service works with children and young people aged 8-17 who care for someone they live with. The service aims to reduce the impact of the caring role and increase the resilience of the child or young person through a range of targeted interventions and respite activities.
The Young Carers Casual Support Worker would support the delivery of respite activity sessions for young carers to promote their social, emotional and recreational development.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with children and young people and have the ability to engage and communicate with both children/young people and their families. You will have an understanding of the issues affecting young carers (or be willing to undertake training in this area) and be committed to working towards improving outcomes for young carers by providing quality provision of play opportunities and activities suitable to the age and needs of the young carer.
The role requires transporting young carers from their homes across Calderdale to a central meeting point, supporting the delivery of the session and transporting the young carers home again. Therefore, it is essential that the post holder has access to a car for work purposes and is able to obtain insurance for business use purposes.
This post requires flexible working mainly evening and weekend work, with additional opportunity for daytime work during school holidays.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. Applicants to posts that are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act will require a DBS from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed.
