We are seeking a new Waste and Transport Manager for our Street Scene & Open Spaces services based at Carlu Close, Hitchcocks Business Park, Willand. Our services cover the whole of the Mid Devon area.
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic candidate to lead and develop our waste management and fleet operations. This is a key leadership role responsible for delivering effective, compliant, and sustainable services that meet the needs of our community and organisation. Mid Devon is a top performing Council for its recycling rate and is keen to add to its existing collection portfolio in the future.
This is an opportunity to lead a critical service area in a forward thinking organisation, committed to innovation and sustainability.
Key responsibilities
• Oversee all aspects of waste and recycling collections including commercial waste
• Manage and maintain the fleet, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards
• Develop and implement strategies to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance sustainability
• Lead and motivate operational teams, fostering a positive and resilient workforce culture
• Monitor performance metrics and deliver continuous improvement initiatives
• Plan the piloting of new recycling collection services and subsequent roll out
• Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental legislation and regulations along with a strong commitment to health and safety
• Assist in the effective managing of budgets and report on financial performance
You will be a strong communicator, able to disseminate messages to crews effectively whilst dealing with senior managers and elected members. You will have a clear vision of how you can achieve the best from the team you lead.
The post holder will need to be flexible as to start and finish times to deal with the diversity of the role.
