Cheshire East Council (CEC) is looking for a self-motivated Social Care Assessor to join our small but innovative and friendly Sensory Services Team. This is a very specific post, and the successful candidate needs to be willing to be trained to be able to fulfil this role.
This post will provide a wide range of learning and training opportunities and includes joint working across the Health and Social Care sector. It will provide you with an excellent opportunity to progress your career and will offer you a wide range of experiences within Adult Social Care services.
The Sensory Services Team are part of the wider Care Community Partnerships with GP’s, Matrons, Mental Health services, Housing and voluntary community sector services as they take a collaborative approach to supporting people within its footprint. The Sensory Services Team provide support predominantly to adults over 18 but there may be occasions when you may support young people aged 16+ with sight loss in transition to adulthood. This includes those with a learning disability, autism, mental health concerns or physical disabilities.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Social Care Assessor to develop new and innovative ways of working and it is therefore essential that you have an appropriate Heath & Social care qualification and experience of adult social care and be able to work under pressure. The successful applicant will need to be able to adopt a flexible approach to their work and be a good team player. They must also be willing to undergo specific low vision training in identifying low vision needs and consider the Rehabilitation Officer for Visual Impairment qualification in the future. Hybrid working of being home or office based is available. This post will cover the whole of Cheshire East so a willingness to travel is essential.
What we are looking for:
An enthusiastic Social Care Assessor who has an understanding of adult social care and the impact that sensory loss can have on an individual.
The candidate should be self-motivated with excellent communication skills and the ability to develop and work both autonomously within the Sensory Services and the wider multi-disciplinary arena.
You will need to have good organisational and time management skills as this is key to effectively managing caseloads.
The candidate should have an understanding of asset and strengths-based support and be able to remain calm in a variety of situations.
A candidate who is willing to undergo specific training to identify low vision needs, support and signposting at an available venue, which may not be Local to Cheshire East so may be required to travel.
A candidate who is willing to be trained to increase their knowledge and promote the service capabilities within Cheshire East.

It will be essential for the post holder to work autonomously within the Council’s policies and professional practice, in addition to maintaining accurate and comprehensive client documentation.
The post holder will be based at Macclesfield Town Hall but there will be a necessity to regularly travel to other locations within Cheshire East.
Cheshire East Council operates a ‘flexible and mobile’ working policy
