Erith (London)
Shift: EVERY SATURDAY ONLY – 12 hours, 06:00 – 18:00
Contract – Umbrella/PAYE only
Pay Rate Negotiable
Ideal extra-income or semi-retired role – just one shift per week, no weekdays ever.
This is a dedicated Saturday PPM (Planned Preventative Maintenance) cover position on a large, high-volume food production site in Erith. The Saturday shift is 100% focused on completing the weekly PPM schedule while keeping an eye on production – very little breakdown work as the lines are fully staffed Mon–Fri.
Perfect for an experienced engineer who wants predictable, well-paid weekend work.
Key Responsibilities
• Complete the full weekly PPM schedule across all production, packaging and plant equipment
• Carry out scheduled inspections, lubrication, adjustments, cleaning, testing and minor repairs as per the CMMS plan
• Typical equipment: conveyors, flow-wrappers, multi-head weighers, palletisers, metal detectors, check-weighers, labellers, mixers, ovens, depositors, pumps, compressors, chillers, boilers, refrigeration plant
• Electrical PPMs (if E-biased): insulation testing, thermal imaging, drive checks, motor condition monitoring, control panel inspections, emergency light testing
• Mechanical PPMs (if M-biased): bearing replacement, chain tensioning, gearbox oil changes, pump/valve servicing, belt tracking, vibration checks
• Update and close off all jobs on the site CMMS system
• Very occasional breakdown support if something major occurs (rare on Saturdays)
Required Experience & Qualifications
• Time-served apprenticeship or formal qualification (NVQ L3 / City & Guilds / ONC / HNC) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
• Proven multi-skilled maintenance experience within food, beverage, dairy or FMCG manufacturing (essential)
• Comfortable methodically working through a structured PPM plan with excellent attention to detail
• Happy to work alone for the full 12-hour shift
• 17th/18th Edition wiring regulations advantageous (electrical candidates)
• Immediate or short-notice availability preferred
