About the Client
Somerset Council’s Adults Services & Housing directorate is committed to supporting communities by providing sustainable housing solutions. The Home Moves Plus project was established to make better use of existing social housing stock in Taunton and Wellington, while mitigating the impact of Hinkley Point C’s construction on local housing needs. Their vision is to reduce under-occupation, free up much-needed accommodation, and create sustainable communities through effective housing management.
The Role
As a Home Moves Plus Officer, you will report to the Lettings Manager and play a key role in reducing under-occupied households within Somerset Council’s housing stock. This involves engaging directly with tenants and their families, providing tailored housing solutions, and administering grants and incentives to support downsizing. You will also be responsible for ensuring housing management systems are updated, producing reports, and liaising with internal teams and external partners to deliver the project’s objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Engage with tenants, families, and stakeholders to provide housing solutions.
Complete and process housing documentation including tenancy agreements, housing register applications, and grant forms.
Administer and determine eligibility for financial incentives under the Transfer Removal Grant scheme.
Produce regular reports on financial incentives, case studies, and housing data.
Update housing management systems with tenancy changes.
Liaise with internal teams, housing associations, removal companies, and external partners to ensure smooth delivery.
Report safeguarding concerns in line with council procedures.
Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory housing standards.
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
Good general education (minimum GCSE or equivalent, including English and Mathematics).
Strong knowledge of housing management, allocations, lettings policy, and housing law.
Experience in income management and housing organisation best practice.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and housing systems (Open Housing, Homefinder Somerset, Choice Based Lettings, Home Swapper).
Excellent customer service and communication skills.
Ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders and promote equality and diversity.
Flexible approach to deadlines and persuasive, coaching style with tenants.
Desirable:
Membership of a professional housing body (e.g. Chartered Institute of Housing).
Experience in social housing organisations or political environments.
Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a tangible impact on housing provision in Somerset, supporting tenants to find suitable accommodation while contributing to the creation of sustainable communities.
