The University of Glasgow is seeking two highly-experienced and dedicated Safeguarding Liaison Officers for an immediate, fixed-term contract. You will be a key member of a multi-disciplinary team, crucial in responding to complex safeguarding concerns including mental health crises, concerning behaviour, harassment, hate crime, sexual violence, and relationship abuse.
You will be responsible for managing risk, ensuring student safety, and providing expert advice to vulnerable students and supporting staff. This role requires immediate expertise and the ability to hit the ground running within a complex organisation.
Key Details
- Contract: 4-6 Month Temporary Contract
- Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week, 9am - 5pm usual working hours)
- Pay: £25 per hour + Holiday Pay
- Location: University of Glasgow, Scotland
- Compliance: Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme membership is an essential requirement prior to appointment.
Core Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Manage complex cases, including those involving mental health crises, gender-based violence, harassment, and hate crime.
- Ensure appropriate support and safety plans are in place for students deemed to be at risk, in partnership with internal and external services.
- Respond to concerns received via the University reporting tool and other routes, acting as a first point of escalation and providing guidance to colleagues.
- Attend multi-disciplinary team case meetings, providing professional advice on the support of vulnerable students and those in crisis.
- Develop working partnerships with key external agencies, including local NHS Crisis Teams, Police, Social Services, and local Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCS).
Essential Requirements
- Qualification: A professional qualification/membership in a relevant discipline, such as:
- Social Work (Mental Health)
- Mental Health Nursing
- Clinical Psychology
- DBT Practitioner
- Experience:
- Extensive mental health experience with a background in roles such as the fields listed above.
- Proven experience in risk assessments and strong case management within a demanding environment.
- Experience of working with statutory care, NHS Crisis Teams, and/or Community Mental Health Teams.
- Experience of working with vulnerable people and those in crisis, providing empathetic and practical support.
- Experience of working with survivors of sexual violence/abuse and victims of harassment or hate crime.
Desirable Experience & Skills
- Experience in a Higher Education environment or a background in supporting university students.
- Prior experience or training relating to Gender-Based Violence (GBV), domestic abuse, and Sexual Assault (SA).
- Mental Health background with suicide prevention training.
- Registered with a statutory regulatory body for health or social care (e.g., HCPC, NMC) or a Qualified Independent Sexual Violence Advocate.
