Ready to take the next step in your SEN career within a caring, well-supported primary school?
Long Term Futures are supporting a friendly and inclusive primary school in CV6, Holbrooks who are seeking a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a non-verbal child with Autism in Year 1, working predominantly at an EYFS curriculum. This is a rewarding long-term opportunity for someone who is confident with personal care, sensory needs and communication support. You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team to deliver consistent, nurturing support throughout the school day.
The Role
You will provide 1:1 support for a child with Autism who is non-verbal and requires help with communication, emotional regulation and personal care. Although based in a Year 1 class, the pupil is working at an EYFS stage, so learning is delivered through structured play, routine-based learning and communication-focused activities.
Your role will involve supporting the child to engage with the classroom environment, follow routines, access learning and build independence at their own pace. You will use visual timetables, sensory strategies, PECS/Makaton and calming techniques to support communication and behaviour. You'll also work closely with parents and external professionals to ensure consistent support across school and home.
This is a long-term role with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
The Ideal Candidate
* Experience supporting children with ASD, preferably in EYFS or KS1
* Confident supporting non-verbal pupils and delivering communication strategies
* Comfortable providing personal care with dignity and sensitivity
* Understanding of sensory processing, emotional regulation and behaviour support
* Able to deliver structured 1:1 intervention and routine-based learning
* Knowledge of the EYFS framework and early childhood development
* Patient, nurturing and resilient with a calm, consistent approach
* TA qualification or relevant childcare / SEN qualification desirable
The School
* Warm, welcoming and inclusive primary school
* Strong, supportive Senior Leadership Team and SENDCo
* Excellent SEN provision with access to specialist resources
* Clear behaviour policies and strong pastoral support
* Focus on developing communication, independence and emotional wellbeing
