The role
As part of SSEN Transmissions Offshore Portfolio of works, we have an opportunity for a Lead Engineering Manager to join our Offshore AC Project Engineering team to help drive forward our Island projects on Orkney, Western Isles and Shetland and successfully deliver a network for Net Zero. Our Island projects facilitate the connection to our HVDC systems and include state-of the-art AC grid control and stabilisation technology.
The Lead Engineering Manager ensures effective management of regional multidisciplinary project engineering teams, supports the development and delivery of broad range of electricity Transmission projects which will facilitate the expansive growth taking place across our network.
You will
- Manage and develop a team of Engineering Managers and Senior Engineers, as well as supporting the broader regional project engineering team, to deliver innovative and value-adding engineering solutions across a portfolio of development and delivery projects nearing £1bn in value.
- Drive a culture that focuses on personal development and high performance to enable our talented pool of Managers and multidisciplinary Engineers to fulfil their potential and increase the pivotal role they play in shaping strategic improvements and innovation necessary to accelerate the development and delivery of the vast network growth required to facilitate new renewable generation in the North of Scotland.
- Lead a team to diligently manage engineering risks and maximise opportunities to deliver value for money to the consumer and ensure that suitably competent resources, both internal and external, are available to maintain or accelerate programme dates.
- Promote and manage safety in design with particular focus on continual improvement in parallel with ensuring compliance to relevant legislation and effective delivery of CDM Principal Designer and Designer roles.
You have
- Strong experience in leading, developing and managing high performing engineering teams with a focus on innovation and continual improvement.
- A qualification in a relevant engineering discipline, preferably a Fellow or Chartered Engineer, with extensive experience in a similar environment but most importantly a strong ability to facilitate effective and timely problem solving of engineering challenges.
- Relevant technical and commercial knowledge of the Electrical Transmission sector is preferrable, but experience from other relevant industries will be considered.
- As you'll be liaising with a wide range of individuals, you'll need to be able to clearly articulate expectations to a large team, relay complex and technical messages in an easy to understand manner to other stakeholders, and have the ability to negotiate and influence effectively at all levels.
