Content Designer
£35,000 to £45,000 plus great benefits (Work Level 6A)
Manchester city centre (hybrid)

We're open to applications from people who may require flexible working arrangements. You'll have the opportunity to discuss your needs during the interview process and at offer stage.

We're looking for a Content Designer to join our Digital technology and data team in Manchester. In this role, you'll shape how our digital services work from start to finish, making sure they're inclusive and accessible for users. Your first project will involve working with our Funeralcare teams to improve the content our clients and colleagues engage with, making sure it provides genuine value to them.

Why this role matters

As a Content Designer at Co-op, you'll play a key part in how we add value to the experiences of our customers, colleagues, and members. You'll provide clear, accessible, and helpful information, in the right place and at the right time.

By combining insight, creativity, and collaboration skills, you'll design content that works seamlessly across channels and reflects our values.

What you'll do

  • Create accessible and engaging content based on user behaviour, data, research, and content hierarchy
  • Build and manage web pages using our Contentful CMS (Content Management System)
  • Write blogs and articles for Funeralcare that help people and support SEO
  • Manage content and images for our network of local funeral homes
  • Create content with an awareness of AI opportunities and a progressive approach to AI integration
  • Plan and facilitate content reviews to improve decision-making
  • Monitor content performance and identify improvements
  • Take part in research sessions to understand user needs
  • Share knowledge in community of practice sessions
  • Champion good content design principles across Co-op

What you'll bring

  • Experience creating accessible content in a Content Designer or UX Writer role
  • The ability to use CMS and co-ordinate content production
  • A solid understanding of information architecture
  • Knowledge of balancing SEO data with content design principles
  • Good collaboration and relationship-building skills
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to implement promotional campaigns
  • Knowledge of measuring design impacts, for example: A/B testing, research
  • Examples of previous content design work (you'll be asked to share these at interview)

We know some people may hesitate to apply if they don't meet every requirement. At Co-op, we're committed to building diverse and inclusive teams, so if you're excited about this role but your experience doesn't align perfectly, we still encourage you to apply.

Why Co-op?

At Co-op, we're owned by our members. And because we're owned by you, we can do right by you. So when you join us, you're not just taking a job, you're joining a movement. We're an organisation that puts people and communities first, and we're powered by purpose. We want this to be a place where you can thrive, so you'll also receive:

  • An annual bonus (based on personal and business performance)
  • 28 days holiday (rising to 32 with service) plus bank holidays
  • A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
  • Access to a subsidised onsite gym (at our Manchester HQ)
  • 30% discount on Co-op products and 10% off other brands
  • Stream - early access to a percentage of your pay as you earn it
  • Virtual healthcare including GP appointments, mental health support, nutrition and fitness advice
  • 24/7 colleague support service
  • Training and support for your development and career progression
  • Cycle-to-work scheme

A place you'll belong

We're building diverse teams that reflect the communities we serve. We welcome applications from everyone, and our support centre is an inclusive environment where all our colleagues can thrive.

If you have a disability, we'll make reasonable adjustments to support you through the recruitment process. We're also proud to be part of the Disability Confident scheme - if you're disabled and you meet the minimum criteria for this job, we'll guarantee you an interview.
