Dermatology Outpatients are seeking Registered Nurses looking to specialise and begin a career in caring for individuals with acute and chronic skin conditions. Being a Dermatology Nurse is incredibly rewarding the skin is not only our largest organ but also our most visible. The Dermatology Nurse can support, educate and help to manage the patent sometimes to a full resolution and in a chronic condition provide ongoing support and education.

Dermatology is a welcoming friendly team, and the successful applicant will receive a dermatology nursing competency pack and support from a dedicated clinical educator and nurses and doctors with many combined years of dermatology experience.

Dermatology is a varied specialty with a mixture of surgical, general and nurse led clinical areas. Once competent you would be expected to scrub and assist in surgical procedures ranging from a biopsy, to flaps, grafts and micrographic surgery. You would support doctors and nurse consultants with general dermatology and urgent suspected skin cancer clinics, ensuring the patient is supported throughout the consultation and their outcome paperwork reflects the clinician’s next steps.

Once you had a sound grasp of surgical and general clinics registered nurses in dermatology progress to develop skills assisting in a variety of clinical areas and nurse led clinics, including admission avoidance for acute dermatological conditions, post operative wound care, educational input, severe acne, phototherapy, biological medication, paediatrics, allergy testing and teledermatology, There are many areas within the specialty to learn and develop with guided support, specific competencies and at an agreed pace.

Dermatology has clinics at NNUH and Cromer, though these roles would be primarily based at NNUH as we have a dedicated Cromer nursing team, there may be an occasional requirement to cover clinics at Cromer during staff holidays.

• Carry out assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of nursing care without supervision.

• Update patient administration systems e.g. PAS to ensure real time data collection and confidentiality.

• To maintain confidentiality of information (written, verbal, electronic), whilst being aware of the Freedom for Information Act.
• To promptly and effectively communicate relevant changes in patient status to the multi-disciplinary team.
• Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers, significant others, the multi-disciplinary team and support services.
