Purpose of the Role
The Carrier Manager is responsible for recruiting, onboarding, and managing haulier partners to support business growth. This includes expanding the haulier pool, ensuring compliance, and maintaining performance standards through structured onboarding and review processes.
Key Responsibilities
Carrier Recruitment & Expansion
. Grow the haulier pool via advertising, market research, referrals, and networking.
. Collaborate with Sales & Marketing to align recruitment with new business wins and tenders.
Resource & Relationship Management
. Assess regional resource levels and maintain a comprehensive haulier database.
. Develop and manage a search engine for quick access to haulier information.
. Build and maintain strong relationships with haulier partners to ensure long-term collaboration and loyalty.
Onboarding & Compliance
. Onboard new haulier partners in accordance with company procedures and support integration in to transport managements systems (TMS) and real time vehicle tracking systems.
. Ensure Haulier data is accurately maintained and updated in relevant systems.
. Monitor and update compliance with safety, legal and insurance requirements
. Conduct regular performance reviews and manage compliance with operational standards.
Cost & Efficiency
. Work with operations to ensure carrier rates are competitive and aligned with business targets.
. Promote greener logistics by partnering with low-emission carriers and supporting sustainable transport initiatives.
. Identify opportunities to improve transport efficiency and reduce costs through better carrier utilisation.
Skills & Experience Required
. Proficient in Microsoft Office and quick to learn transport management systems.
. Strong analytical and negotiation skills.
. In-depth understanding of operator licensing and insurance regulations.
. Extensive knowledge of UK transport and general haulage markets, including vehicle types.
. Excellent geographical knowledge of the UK.
. Strong communication skills, especially over the phone.
