Crynodeb

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work in the Williams group. This EPSRC funded project looks to develop and test new photoswitchable anionophores for therapeutic applications. Combining organic synthesis, photophysical characterisation and advanced biological techniques, this project seeks to deliver next generation precision therapeutics for hard-to-treat cancers.

The successful applicant will join a growing interdisciplinary research team working at the interface of supramolecular chemistry and biomedicine. Applicants will be required to hold (or be near to completion of) a PhD in organic chemistry and/or supramolecular chemistry. Experience with supramolecular chemistry, vesicle-based assays, DFT calculations, photophysical characterisation and/or cell biology will be seen very favourably, however the project has a large training budget to support the development of the appointee.

Our group is committed to fostering a supportive and collaborative environment, and as a senior lab member you would be expected to aid in the training of junior members; some more details about the group can be found here: https://the-williams-group.co.uk/.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Dr George Williams. G.T.Williams@soton.ac.uk.

This post is offered on a 36-month fixed term, subject to passing probationary requirements. The start date is hoped to be as close to March 1st 2026 as possible but can be flexible for the right candidate. Part-time working and flexible arrangements will be considered. We intend to interview as soon as possible after the closing date, however exact dates will be communicated later.

Candidates will be supported by GTW and the department to seek their own sources of funding in the form of independent fellowships.

Apply by following the instructions online. Please include a CV and a cover letter detailing how your skills and experience match the requirements of the role.

As a university we aim to create an environment where everyone can thrive and are proactive in fostering a culture of inclusion, respect and equality of opportunity. We believe that we can only truly meet our objectives if we are reflective of society, so we are passionate about creating a working environment in which you are free to bring your whole self to work. With a generous holiday allowance as well as additional university closure days we are committed to supporting our staff and students and open to a flexible working approach.

Apply by 11.59 pm GMT on the closing date. For assistance contact Recruitment on +44(0)2380 592750 or recruitment@soton.ac.uk quoting the job number.
