About the Job
As our IT Operations Engineer you will be focused on our Networks, Servers and IT infrastructure. You will be a hands on technical lead, for day to day networking and cloud platform operations across our site and Microsoft cloud tenancy.
You will provide 1st–3rd line support for networks and core infrastructure, collaborate closely with our managed service providers , third party service providers and vendors for escalations and complex changes, and steward our Azure/M365 estate. You’ll also liaise with our managed AWS provider to ensure effective service and knowledge flow to the technical operations Team.
This is a great role for who enjoys solving problems end to end, improving reliability and security, and working across on prem networks, cloud platforms and modern workplace technologies.
Your main duties will be to:
- Deliver 1st, 2nd and 3rd line support for VMD networks, Azure/M365 core services, and office infrastructure within agreed SLAs.
- Own incident/problem diagnosis across FortiGate firewalls, managed Wi Fi, switching, VPN/remote access, DNS/DHCP/NTP, and meeting room AV/Teams Rooms setups.
- Configure, test and deploy network changes (e.g., routing/VLANs, SD WAN/segmentation, VPNs, wireless SSIDs, NAC/RADIUS) following change control.
- Maintain secure configurations and patching across firewalls, network appliances and platform services; support vulnerability remediation.
- Embed Zero Trust principles, Conditional Access, MFA, device compliance, and least privilege access in Entra ID (Azure AD) and M365.
- Coordinate with the network/infra MSP for escalations, complex changes, root cause analysis and service improvements.
- Lead or contribute as the infrastructure SME on projects—network refreshes, security uplift, Azure landing zone improvements, M365 platform enhancements, and AV/meeting room upgrades.
- Cloud & Identity: Azure (networking, IaaS/PaaS), Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online, SharePoint/OneDrive, Teams, Defender, Intune/Endpoint Manager, Conditional Access), Entra ID (Azure AD).
- Work with the managed AWS team to ensure effective support for 1st line (runbooks, knowledge transfer, monitoring/alerting, incident pathways).
- Manage supplier tickets, license/support renewals, and maintenance windows.
- Contribute to risk assessments, audits and accreditation evidence; align with ITIL v4 processes and relevant government security guidance.
- Implement and maintain Azure networking (VNets, subnets, NSGs/ASGs, firewalls, private endpoints, site‑to‑site VPN/ExpressRoute where applicable).
- Comply with ISO 9001 (quality management) and ISO 27001 (information security) standards, and GDPR and record management requirements.
- Act corporately – meeting, role-modelling, embedding, and championing the corporate objectives set by the VMD.
