Position
Job title: Waking Night Shift Support Practitioner
Responsible to: Residential Service Manager and Team Leader
Salary: £27,852.00 (plus shift allowance)
Contract: Permanent
SSC registration level: Practitioner
Required qualification: A qualification of N/SVQ3 in Care, or equivalent or the willingness and ability to attain this within five years
Main responsibilities: To provide waking night shift cover. To be pro-active in providing a care and support service for service users based on their individual needs.

Requirements

Job Activities
Form, develop, sustain and maintain relationships with service users who may have multiple issues including homelessness. mental health, substance misuse and criminal justice through which the other job activities can be accomplished.
Ensure that the basic needs of service users are addressed and met (food, shelter, warmth, bathing, clothing, etc.).
Intervene in a crisis- effective pre- emption of accidents and incidents.
Counsel service users in relation to emotional issues.
Contribute to implementation of agreed individual service user support plans by carrying out specific activities. This includes written recordings and verbal handovers.
Work in line with all policies and procedures relating to the building e.g. health & safety, cleaning, waking night shift task list etc
Assist in protecting service users from abuse and work with other agencies in this respect.
Where required, assist service users with medication.
Where required, assist service users with personal care needs.
Advocate on service users behalf and generally assist them with communication skills.

Systems
Maintain documentation – records, H&S logs, diary entries,
Dispense medication (PRN when required)
Use computers/IT systems – Word, email, databases, software

Quality Standards
Working to the appropriate Care Inspectorate standards – Care and Housing Support, Residential Care.
Working to the appropriate level SVQ.
Working to the appropriate Scottish Social Services Council standards for the registration of staff.
Working to the appropriate Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator standards.
Working to the appropriate commissioners standards (e.g. Aberdeen City Council).
Working to the appropriate Environmental Health standards.

General Terms of Reference
In carrying out the above activities, the Support Worker will:
Work waking night shifts including weekends and public holidays.
Work on your own and as part of a team.
Maximise own performance and contribution
Ensure they comply with internal and external regulations, procedures and other requirements appertaining to the project
Maintain the good reputation of the organisation
Keep abreast of developments and legislation relevant to the project's range of activities
Seek to improve knowledge and skills by both formal and informal means
Carry out other relevant work commensurate with the post as required
