Job Description

Role – Service Manager (Older People and Primary Care Services)
Location – GHSCP, Older People and Primary Care Services, North West Locality
Contract Status – Temporary up to August 2026.
NHS Grade: Band 8B (£70,986 to £75,937), NHS hours per week: 37.5
GCC Grade: Grade 9 LDR1a (£64,365.59 – £74,625.77), GCC hours per week: 35

This post is an integrated Managers post, within Glasgow Health and Social Care Partnership.

Within Glasgow City HSCP 3 localities, the Older People and Primary Care Services (OPPC) manage a breadth of Health and Social Care services including Community District Nursing, Diabetes Specialist Nurses, Community Rehab Services, Community Occupational Therapy, Older Peoples Mental Health, OPPD Social Work Teams, the Carers Team and Intermediate Care Services. The Community Respiratory Team is also managed by North West Locality OPPC

This is a senior management post with direct report to the Head of Service and with responsibility for direct line management and 1:1 support to Team Leaders for the above noted services. This is a key leadership post with general management responsibility for a range of health and social work professions. The post holder will have responsibility for line management of a number of Team Leads within the locality and will provide strategic leadership and operational management for health and social care services for people aged over 65, adults under 65 with a physical disability or long term condition and people with palliative and end of life care needs

The post holder is responsible for providing managerial input to the HSCP/Locality strategic structure and to actively contribute to the overall planning and management of Older People & Primary Care services in Glasgow HSCP.

The post holder’s responsibilities also include assisting the HSCP to shift the balance of care from acute and institutional care to community services and care at home and as such, they will participate in planning future service provision in line with the strategic vision for older people services via a range of Planning, Performance and Implementation Groups and within the context of the HSCP Governance arrangements.

The post holder is accountable for the performance, resources and activity within their area of responsibility and will also have a role in policy development and continued service development within a complex and dynamic environment of health and social care.

They will be required to work across a range of organisational and professional boundaries including the interfaces with Acute services, Housing and Voluntary Sector and liaising with the primary care independent contractors.

You should hold a Health or Social Care diploma/degree level qualification, supplemented by additional training, management qualifications, or equivalent management and leadership experience.

These roles are excepted under Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exclusions and Exceptions) (Scotland) Order 2013 (as amended).

Under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989, this post is politically restricted.

Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme is essential on taking up appointment. Please note successful candidates for the above role will be required to pay for their PVG Membership/or Scheme Checks.

The successful applicant, if an employee of the Partnership, will be appointed to the post under the terms and conditions of either Glasgow City Council (GCC) or NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde (NHSGGC), depending on current employer. If the successful applicant is not an employee of the Partnership, they may choose to be appointed to the post under the terms and conditions of either GCC or NHSGGC.

It is anticipated that interviews will take place across December 2025
