At John Smedley, every garment tells a story — of craftsmanship, integrity, and British heritage spanning over two centuries. As part of our Brook Street team, you’ll play a key role in sharing that story with every customer who walks through our doors.
We’re looking for a warm, proactive Retail Assistant who takes pride in delivering exceptional service and creating memorable in-store experiences.
What You’ll Do:
In this people-focused role, you’ll be a vital part of our store team, helping customers feel welcomed, supported, and inspired. Your day-to-day will include:
• Building a strong understanding of our product range and unique knitting heritage
• Delivering exceptional customer service that exceeds expectations
• Offering informed product advice and professional support at every interaction
• Managing customer transactions accurately using our till system
• Maintaining excellent shop floor standards, ensuring displays are tidy and beautifully presented
• Handling customer queries and complaints with professionalism and care
• Supporting stock management and taking part in stock counts when required
• Keeping the store clean, organised and safe for customers and colleagues
• Working flexibly with the team to maintain shop floor coverage
• Representing the brand by wearing and caring for John Smedley product in-store
• Following all health & safety and company policies
• Engaging in ongoing training to deepen product knowledge and service skills

• Support smooth and accurate stock operations
Who you are:
• Passionate about exceptional customer service
• Warm, confident and great at building rapport
• A natural team player with strong communication skills
• Organised, dependable and self-motivated
• Comfortable using computerised till systems
• Someone with previous retail experience in luxury clothing, footwear, or a similar environment (ideal but not essential)
