Start Date: 05 January 2026 End Date: 30 March 2026 Duration: 12 Weeks Hours per Week: 35 (Monday–Friday, 09:00–17:00)

Location: 222 Upper Street, London Borough of Islington
Role Purpose
The London Borough of Islington is seeking a skilled Residential Property Lawyer to join their busy Legal Services team. This role is required to support an increased workload and will focus on property law matters, with a particular emphasis on Right to Buy (RTB) sales.
You will play a key role in delivering high-quality legal services to the council, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations and supporting the effective management of property transactions.
Key Responsibilities
Handle residential property matters, with a focus on Right to Buy sales.
Provide legal advice and support to the council on property-related issues.
Draft, review, and negotiate property contracts and documentation.
Manage a varied caseload independently, ensuring deadlines are met.
Liaise with internal stakeholders and external parties to ensure smooth delivery of services.
Contribute to the effective functioning of the Legal Services team.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
Qualified lawyer with experience in residential property law.
Strong knowledge of Right to Buy processes and legislation.
Ability to manage a busy caseload with minimal supervision.
Excellent drafting and negotiation skills.
Desirable:
Previous experience working within a local authority legal team.
Familiarity with wider property law matters and public sector governance.
Skills
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines.
Collaborative approach to working with colleagues and stakeholders.
High attention to detail and accuracy in legal documentation.
Working Conditions
Full-time role (35 hours per week).
Office-based at 222 Upper Street, with potential for some remote working.
Contract duration: 12 weeks, with potential for extension depending on workload.
