Key responsibilities:
• Support the Line Manager by providing daily technical and operational guidance to field staff.
• Plan and schedule monitoring activities in collaboration with National and Area teams to maximise efficiency.
• Manage, enter, and interpret routine data across key systems.
• Lead training and mentoring within the team.
• Ensure biosecurity and health & safety standards are upheld
• Supervise and support field teams during monitoring activities
• Contribute to the delivery of all national monitoring elements
What we’re looking for
• Experience in leading teams in fieldwork settings
• Ability to manage different computer systems and input technical data
• Comfortable working in and around water
• Excellent organisational and communication skills
• Commitment to safe working practices and environmental sustainability
The job involves driving, lifting and carrying samples and equipment, working in and near water. You will be required to follow operational guidance and current Health and Safety procedures.
We are fully committed to being an inclusive employer and ensuring equal opportunities for everyone. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies, including job share.
The team
We plan, schedule and collect field-based samples for both local, national and statutory requirements. The samples collected provide key data for multiple teams across the Environment Agency.
The North Yorkshire and Teesside Team is dispersed with offices in York and Darlington. Wider travel around the large geographic area which the team covers will be required and there is an expectation to support adjoining National Monitoring Field Teams when required.
Experience/skills required
We’re seeking candidates who are happy to work in an office environment in a supervisory role and can work in the field in all weathers and environments.
A full UK driving licence is essential for this role.

• Good level of literacy and numeracy skills.
• Able to deal with customers tactfully and effectively.
• Experience of using standard IT packages and specialised software systems would be an advantage.
• Ability to undertake data entry and data interpretation.
