The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust’s Pathology Centre are looking for a dynamic, caring, and enthusiastic leader to join our Microbiology Team. This role requires values-based leadership of a large team of Biomedical Scientists, Support Staff, and Secretarial team.

The individual will also be a key contributor to the overall operational, workforce and finance performance and strategy of the department, working closely with our other Pathology leaders and wider colleagues. The successful applicant will be working closely with other members of the Pathology leadership team to deliver a quality, patient-focused service. The applicant will be a Registered Scientist with the HCPC, with highly developed specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and experience. They will have professional knowledge acquired through degree, post graduate study, and significant experience in this specialist field to MSc Level or equivalent.

If you are looking for new opportunities and challenges in a management role, then this post could be for you. You will need to demonstrate an excellent working knowledge of Microbiology; effective leadership skills with experience of managing multi-disciplinary teams; effective communication; be able to interpret and present performance and business data; be able to advise senior managers of risks and issues; and solve operational and day-to-day management issues using previous experience and own initiative. You will need to have a strong collaborative approach and the ability to engage service users, partners, commissioners, and other key stakeholders.

You will be joining us at an incredibly exciting time as, having been awarded more than £300 million government funding, The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) is about to undergo a major transformation as part of our Hospitals Transformation Programme. This will present an opportunity for the post-holder to take a leading role in the planning, design, and development of the future Microbiology Service.

The SaTH Pathology Centre is also in the process of forming a Network with our colleagues at the North Midlands and Cheshire Pathology Service, and the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital. This will provide great opportunities for shared-learning, innovation, and improvement in the region.

Our vision, 'To provide excellent care for the communities we serve,' is not just a statement; it's a promise we live by every day. Guided by our core Values - Partnering, Ambitious, Caring, and Trusted - we're determined to make a real difference in the lives of those who matter most: our patients and their families.
