An exciting opportunity for a caring and motivated Special Needs Assistant to join a friendly and inclusive primary school team supporting children with additional needs in a nurturing learning environment.

NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Previous experience of working with children with Special Educational Needs is desirable. The organisation welcomes applications from recent graduates who are interested in pursuing a future career in teaching, as well as those who have an interest in supporting and working with children with special needs.
SALARY: £24,796 per annum FTE / Actual Annual Salary £17,243 per annum + Benefits
LOCATION: Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire
JOB TYPE: Part-Time, Temporary
This appointment will be a 1:1 role supporting a child with additional needs and is of a temporary nature due to the identified budget provision to provide SEND support in the school to individual children. The contract is likely to last for at least one academic year and could potentially be extended.
WORKING HOURS: 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8.45am to 3.15pm, term time only (39 weeks).

The Special Needs Assistant will play a key role in developing communication, confidence, and independence in pupils with special educational needs, working closely with teachers and other professionals to achieve the best possible outcomes.

DUTIES
Your duties as the Special Needs Assistant include:
• Providing 1:1 Support: Assist a child with additional needs in the classroom environment
• Encouraging Engagement: Motivate and inspire children to participate in learning activities
• Using Communication Strategies: Support pupils using non-verbal and visual communication tools
• Creating Structure: Establish clear routines and predictable learning structures for children with SEND
• Supporting Emotional Wellbeing: Attune to the child’s emotional needs and promote positive behaviour
• Collaborating With Staff: Work closely with teachers and other professionals to deliver consistent support
• Promoting Inclusion: Help children integrate and build relationships within the classroom
• Adapting Approaches: Think on your feet and adapt strategies to meet changing needs
• Maintaining Safeguarding Standards: Uphold confidentiality and safeguarding procedures at all times
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
• A child-centred approach with patience, empathy and understanding
• Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure
• Experience of supporting children with social or communication difficulties
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong organisational and time management skills
• Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality procedures
• Flexibility and willingness to learn and adapt
• Previous experience in a school or SEND setting is desirable
• Graduate applicants with a future interest in teaching are also encouraged to apply
