The post holder will assume the role of Clinical educator for Obstetrics and Gynaecology to cover maternity leave. This will be a 12 month secondment.The post holder will plan, facilitate, timetable, coordinate and evaluate teaching to undergraduate medical students from Newcastle and Sunderland Universities. It will involve but is not exclusive to clinical skills sessions, simulation, small and large group teaching, this could be with patients in the classroom, ward or clinical environment. This incorporates history taking, clinical skills and examination, simulation based teaching, advanced communication skills and assessment of such skills. Particular focus should be on inter-professional learning opportunities.

The timetabling of clinical placements for students is a main purpose of this role to maximize student learning and experience and to avoid ‘pressure points’ in clinical areas during the academic year. The post holder will be a visible presence and support to medical students whilst on clinical placement and support and facilitate bedside teaching.
• Develop and maintain excellent communication with medical students, providing pastoral care and mentorship


• Ensure pastoral care and advice given is aligned to policies of universities and signposting to appropriate agencies.


• Act as a point of contact for students who wish to raise a concern


• Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with Undergraduate faculty (clinical and non-clinical) and staff within the Trust directorates,


• Develop and maintain excellent working relationships within simulation team


• Develop and maintain excellent working relationships and represent the Trust with universities


• Actively engage in both internal and external educational meetings


• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with patients and their carers


• High level communication skills, written, verbal and non-verbal ensuring teaching sessions can be provided to small and large groups of students

· Actively lead on recruiting patients for the undergraduate department database and ensuring this data is secured as per the Trust data security policies

· Actively take lead on a topic relating to undergraduate education such as mental health first aider, freedom to speak up, equality, diversity & inclusivity, reducing waste and the Trust green plan
