CITB are seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to play a pivotal role in shaping financial policy, driving process improvements, and ensuring excellence in statutory reporting, tax compliance, and technical accounting.
This is a high‑profile position at the heart of CITB’s financial governance, where you will safeguard regulatory compliance and deliver trusted financial information to both internal and external stakeholders
Role: Senior Financial Accountant
Location: Peterborough (Hybrid) CITB is currently operating a hybrid approach to working and the teamwork from home and attend the office an average one day per week depending on business need
Hours of Work: Full-time (35 hours per week)
Contract: Permanent
Salary Range: £49,500 - £60,500 per annum
Grade: SL1
Target Salary: £58,633 per annum
What you will be doing:
Lead the delivery of accurate, timely statutory accounts that meet the highest standards.
Oversee tax compliance, ensuring CITB is positioned optimally and fully compliant.
Champion improvements in financial systems, controls, and reporting processes.
Safeguard balance sheet integrity through reconciliations and asset management.
Partner with colleagues across the business to ensure financial data is reliable and insightful.
Act as the key link with external auditors and government stakeholders.
Provide expert guidance on complex financial matters, including VAT and technical accounting.
Manage and develop a small team, building capability and confidence.
Interpret financial regulations to advise on business impact and ensure compliance.
Drive transformation projects that embed best practice and modernise financial governance.
Your Experience:
Essential:
ACA/ACCA/ICAEW qualified with strong post‑qualification experience in financial accounting, reporting, and audit.
Deep technical knowledge of IFRS, FReM, Charities SORP, and UK tax legislation.
Proven track record in leading statutory audits, complex reporting cycles, and driving process improvements.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at senior levels.
Desirable
Experience in change management and finance transformation projects.
Experience of supporting and developing a team.
Background in public sector or charity finance.
Proactive, improvement‑focused mindset with a keen eye for detail.
