The Learning Support Service is a great place to work if you are passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people with additional needs / ASC. This is an exciting opportunity to join our service of teachers, teaching assistants, and other associated professionals who support learners with all types of SEND in schools across the City. Based at Unity House, our teachers all work as part of the LSS team, visiting children and young people in schools and settings across Salford to support them, their teachers and TAs, and all schools, to ensure that all children and young people receive a high-quality education.

Teachers working in this role are employed in accordance with standard teachers’ terms and conditions (including main and upper payscale, SEN and TLR allowances).
About the Role
We are looking to employ a talented and enthusiastic teacher to join the Learning Support Service, to lead and work with the ASC team to start as soon as possible.
Key responsibilities will include:
Supporting a team of teachers and teaching assistants; overseeing timetables, referrals and caseloads, supporting the effective day to day operation of the ASC team through casework meetings, one to ones, and supporting staff through induction and CPD opportunities.
Holding hold a small but complex caseload, involving some direct teaching / assessments, delivery of INSET, planning and monitoring.
Work with the other teachers in TLR positions to support the service manager and to deliver on the objectives of the LSS.
Working closely and in partnership with educational settings and maintain both support and challenge with SENCOs and other school staff.
Working collaboratively with other professionals and schools on wider LA projects such as the Salford Neurodiversity in Schools Project.
About you
The successful candidate will be:
- A qualified teacher and an outstanding practitioner with knowledge of the legislation in relation to SEN / ASC and experience of working with children and young people with social communication difficulties.
- Able to lead a team of teachers and TAs, with the ability to empower others, to provide expert advice and guidance, and to increase skills and confidence in others.
- Able to provide effective support and constructive professional challenge to school staff and other stakeholders.
You will be expected to work with a fluctuating caseload across Salford, offering assessment, advice and training across all school phases. Reporting directly to the Service Manager the successful candidate will lead the ASC team, being responsible for a team of specialist teachers and TAs. The successful candidate will join an existing team of highly motivated and experienced professionals dedicated to providing excellent support to children, young people and schools.
Please be aware that this post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and that you will be required to meet the cost of the DBS check currently £49.50. The payment for this will be deducted from your first four months’ salary payments at a rate of £12.38 per month. If you do not commence employment for any reason but the DBS has been processed, you will be sent an invoice for the payment of £49.50.
