Applications are invited for an ST1-2 level clinical fellow rotation in Neurology and Stroke Medicine to start immediately.

This post would be suitable for an ST1-2 level or more senior equivalent who has completed Foundation training or core medical training (or equivalent), and wishes to gain further experience in Neurology or Stroke, perhaps with a view to pursuing related ST3 training.

The post holder will work a 1:12 full-shift resident oncall rota shared between 8 stroke juniors and 4 neurology juniors. The rota is EWTD compliant with compensatory off days and flexible annual leave.

Daytime dutiesin neurologywill includecovering the neurologyin-patients(10 beds), weekly outpatient clinics, and covering the programmed investigations unit including day case lumbar punctures.

Daytime duties in strokewill include the care of in-patients on the Hyperacute Stroke Unit (12 beds) and the Acute Stroke Unit (14 beds),TIA clinics andattending emergency calls for thrombolysis andmechanical thrombectomy.
• Daily review of in-patients and new referrals usually with the SpR and/or consultant
• Ward duties including practical procedures and MDT meetings
• Presenting cases at weekly meetings
• Outpatient clinics including TIA clinics
• Assessing ED patients for thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy

There are 10-15 neurology beds on the neurosciences wards (12E & 12F) including two dedicated video-EEG telemetry bed. There is also a programmed investigations unit (PIU) on 11D ward where patients attend as a day case for procedures and infusions.

With Neurological cases representing approximately 20% of all acute admissions and a similar proportion of the primary care workload, attachments in Neurology are highly valued as part of both foundation and core medical training.

Super-specialisation within the department includes epilepsy, stroke, movement disorders, headache, multiple sclerosis, neuro-rehabilitation and neuro-muscular/peripheral nerve and MND. In neurosurgery interests include; head injury, complex spine, skull base surgery including pituitary, vascular, and functional including trigeminal neuralgia. There is a Gamma Knife unit at St Barts Hospital.
