Location: Barking, London
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 - 17:00 (40 hours per week)
Call-out rota: Occasional, across two local school sites

Equans is looking for a reliable and skilled Handyperson (Maintenance Operative) to join our on-site Facilities Management team at a secondary school in Barking. You'll play a key role in keeping the school safe, operational, and well-maintained, helping to create a better environment for staff and students alike.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Carrying out day-to-day planned and reactive maintenance tasks across the site

  • Supporting minor mechanical, electrical, and fabric repairs - no two days are the same

  • Conducting regular door and fire door inspections to ensure safety compliance

  • Assisting with statutory and mandatory maintenance work as directed by the Engineering Supervisor

  • Participating in a shared out-of-hours call-out rota for both schools on the Barking contract

  • Maintaining accurate records and using IT systems for task updates and reporting

What We're Looking For
  • Previous experience in general maintenance or building services, ideally in a commercial or educational setting

  • Basic trade skills in one or more areas: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, or general fabric maintenance

  • A practical mindset and willingness to learn on the job

  • Comfortable using IT systems for reporting and scheduling (basic computer literacy essential)

  • Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach

  • Able to work independently, take initiative, and manage your own time effectively

  • A full UK driving licence

  • Able to pass an enhanced DBS check (required due to school environment)
