Neway International are seeking a Public Health Officer to join our client based with Central Bedfordshire Council.

Location: Priory House, Monks Walk, Chicksands, Shefford, Central Bedfordshire, SG17 5TQ
Hours per week: 37
Start Date: 05 January 2026 End Date: 14 Weeks (with view to extend to 6 months) Pay Rates: PAYE: £14.60 per hour Umbrella/Ltd: £18.57 per hour

Key Responsibilities
Provide tailored care to individuals aiming to quit smoking, including behavioural support and motivational interviewing.

Develop personalised quit plans, setting quit dates, identifying triggers, and creating coping strategies.

Offer guidance on nicotine replacement therapies (NRTs) and other stop-smoking medications.

Monitor client progress through regular follow-ups and adapt support as needed.

Maintain accurate client records in line with confidentiality policies.

Deliver one-to-one sessions or group support in community, healthcare, or virtual settings.

Promote smoking cessation services and liaise with healthcare professionals to encourage referrals.

Stay updated on smoking cessation research and guidelines to ensure evidence-based practice.

Provide feedback to support ongoing service development.

Candidate Requirements
Degree-level education and/or equivalent demonstrable experience.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate people.

Understanding of health inequalities and experience working with diverse populations.

Experience delivering lifestyle change support, particularly stop smoking services.

Ability to work autonomously and within a team, building strong relationships.

Organised, able to prioritise workload effectively, and meet deadlines.

Strong presentation, facilitation, and IT skills.

Must hold a full valid driving licence, have access to a vehicle, and be able to travel across Central Bedfordshire, Bedford, and Milton Keynes.

Flexibility to work at least one evening per week and attend CBC offices once a week (usually Tuesday).

Enhanced DBS required.
