The Role and the Department
The Development and Alumni Relations Office (DARO) is responsible for coordinating philanthropy, alumni and supporter engagement and advancement communications on behalf of the University. DARO works with colleges, academic departments, research centres and institutes, wider student experience partners, and professional departments to engage over 200,000 alumni and supporters around the world.
In support of this global operation, the Alumni and Supporter Engagement (ASE) team are ultimately responsible for maintaining lifelong connections, driving continuously higher levels of engagement, including: providing opportunities and support for our alumni; engaging and managing volunteers across a range of areas - from colleges support to global ambassadors; managing annual giving and fundraising appeals; and developing advancement communications initiatives. The ASE team consists of a dedicated team of Advancement professionals underpinning and complementing the vital work of DARO.
The ASE Officer (Events) is part of a bespoke Events unit within the ASE team.
The post-holder will support and, where appropriate lead, the delivery of all alumni and supporter engagement and fundraising events activity, running multiple and often simultaneous events across various stakeholders and markets.
The post-holder will also play a critical role within the delivery of the bicentenary fundraising campaign' - a major philanthropic initiative which seeks to support the next generation of inspiration and leadership at Durham and the delivery of the Alumni and Supporter engagement strategy initiatives.
This role will suit a candidate who is interested in building on their events experience and is enthusiastic about their own development and that of the team.
DARO operate a hybrid working system with an expected two days working in the office at Boldon House.
The base location for this role is Boldon House, our exciting new professional services hub. Boldon House is situated on the outskirts of Durham near the Arnison Centre in Pity Me. Boldon House brings a number of professional services teams together in a vibrant office environment which supports collaborative working and is designed to embrace hybrid working.
