About our Organisation
The Soil Association, formed in 1946, is the only UK charity which works across the spectrum of human health, the environment and animal welfare. That’s because we cannot tackle these issues in isolation.
We campaign for change, we support farming innovation, we serve healthy food in communities, we support and grow the organic market, and we protect forests. We couldn't do any of this without our supporters, partners, donors and dedicated staff. We make a difference in the world where it’s needed the most.
Soil Association Exchange is a new service for all UK farmers to help them farm in a way that improves the climate and protects nature and enhances their profitability. SA Exchange works with farmers to measure the environmental impact and provides advice and financial incentives on how the farm can improve.
Soil Association Exchange is a fast-paced, commercial startup that spun out of the Soil Association charity in 2022. Exchange sells its services to a variety of customers including retailers (e.g. M&S and Sainsburys), processors (e.g. Riverford and Arla) and financial institutions (e.g. Lloyds Banking Group). Through these companies we are now working with 1000 UK farmers.
About the Opportunity
SA Exchange works with farmers to measure the environmental impacts of their farm across 6 different metrics – and then delivers bespoke advice on how those scores can be improved. Working alongside a farming advisor the technician’s responsibilities include arranging and carrying out infield assessment for soil and biodiversity.
We are expecting 75 farms in Northern Ireland that require soil sampling before April 2026. The role is flexible and you can arrange your own schedule. Full training will be provided and a full job description is attached.
About You
With practical experience in agriculture, environmental or habitat conservation you will understand complex farming environments. You will have a can-do attitude and be happy to work outdoors in all weather conditions as the job can be physically demanding.
You will be a confident communicator who is able to prioritise and meet deadlines. Most importantly, you will be committed to a fairer, more sustainable, and more profitable future for farming.
Our Benefits
We offer a range of financial and lifestyle benefits to all our employees, including:
27 days annual holiday increasing to 30 days with length of service plus bank holidays (pro rata for part time)

Free membership of the Soil Association and discounts on organic produce
Volunteer days to give back to the local community or support green initiatives
