Supporting the management and delivery of clinical services within the outpatient department clinic in
Chelsea and Westminster hospital
This will include complaints, HR management, and resolution of incident forms and local governance
issues.
Providing professional management to all Non-Medical members of staff and work in conjunction
with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
To work in partnership with lead consultants, matron, senior sister , deputy assistant service manager,
deputy general manager and general manager to manage provision and modify clinic resources
Ensuring that at all time there is appropriate clinical cover for the department and adjusting and
escalating where required in order to ensure that clinical standards are maintained at all times

Contribute to evidence based practice and support research projects for the clinical members of the terms and conditions

In conjunction with medical team and clinical nurse specialists participate to form local guidelines as required by the standards of the hospital.

Ensure that patient documentation is maintained to a high standard and support the clinical team in the transition to electronic notes

To ensure that all clinical equipment that is required for the department is ordered and maintained so clinical standards can be maintained.

Provide advice and guidance to junior members of staff and the wider trust

Act as an advocate for the patient and relatives as required and support them through the decision making process

Collaborate with trust wide departments to escalate and prioritize patient care where needed and ensure that appropriate care is given to the patient when an inpatient stay is deemed necessary.

Where appropriate to assist and cover clinical lists or endeavour to find a clinician who does have the expertise to cover

Have a commitment to the development of initiatives and wide trust policies

Ensure that nursing practice is of the highest standard in line with trust and CQC standards

To use effective communication and interpersonal skills to provide information, explanation, and reassurance to patients and families, and build an environment of trust and rapport, enabling patient empowerment

Professional

Maintain professional behaviour at all times and promote a positive image of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation trust at all times in line with trust values

Maintain and contribute to a high quality safe working environment recognising the health and safety requirements of patients, visitors and staff

Practice in accordance with the NMC code of professional conduct and other appropriate professional guidelines

Ensure all strategies, policies and protocols relating to infection control are implemented, monitored and that appropriate and timely action is taken in response to ensuring the prevention of cross infection.

Protects patient confidentiality and reports any breaches in line with the data protection act and trust policies

Report accidents, incidents and complaints and provide support for members of staff or patients involved in line with trust policy.

Maintain clear and accurate documentation in line with NMC and trust standards

Support the senior sister with local clinical governance and the impact it has on patient care Understand local audit processes and takes opportunities to participate in local and trust wide audits

Ensure the ordering and maintenance of adequate stock supply and equipment in an effective manner

To familiarise and read all required local and trust wide policies, procedures and guidelines

Communication

Ensure communication is effective between the patient, relatives and members of the multidisciplinary team and ensure appropriate nursing input into patient care discussions

Ensure communication is used effectively in the interest of patient care including the use of clinical incident reporting as necessary

Communicate handover of care in a professional manner

Demonstrate politeness, courtesy and sensitivity in dealing with patients, visitors and colleagues maintaining good customer relations and recognising individuality and rights for each patient in line with trust values

Work cohesively with the multidisciplinary team ensuring the very best services to patients are provided at all times

Work effectively within an inclusive and diverse cultural environment

Ensure all communication is presented appropriately to the recipients according to level of understanding, type of communication being imparted and possible barriers such as language, culture, and physical or mental health conditions.

Ensure all communication which may be complex, contentious or sensitive is undertaken in a responsive and inclusive manner focusing and reflecting on improvement and ways forward.

Leadership and management

Taking responsibility of the day to day management of the junior nursing members of staff and support/deputise for the senior sister with management duties.

Take overall day to day responsibility for the proactive management of the clinical service within the unit

Work with the assistant service manager to ensure that appropriate levels of admin support are available for the clinic

Support the senior sister with budget of the clinic being aware and aim to allocate the resources as effectively as possible

Perform trust appraisals for all the junior nursing staff

Be aware of the risk and governance issues relating to the clinic and regular update all risk assessments and COSH assessments

Assist in recruitment of junior nursing staff.

Assess and advise on the skill mix within the unit and if required escalate to senior management to rearrange clinics when it is not clinically safe or effective for the patients to be seen.

Ensure that all junior nursing staff are up to date with the relevant trust policies and collaborate with the clinical team to create or update relevant guidelines that are pertinent to the department

To resolve complaints where possible at a local level within the clinical area and escalate as appropriate

To seek the views of patients, families, and colleagues, using this to develop and improve practice and the patient experience within the speciality

To contribute to change at individual and team levels to improve practice and health outcomes

To participate in risk assessment and clinical governance activities, including clinical audit

Education and development

Act as a mentor for all new, student and temporary members of staff and maintain a conducive learning environment

Support team members within their professional role

Participate in education in initiatives and audits where available

Take responsibility for own learning needs and ensure at all times that professional standards are maintained as guided by the NMC code of conduct.

Be aware that there may be an expectation to participate in additional projects that may benefit the department

To provide advice and guidance to nurses, midwives, and other professions within the bounds of own knowledge and expertise

To use a reflective and questioning approach to individual practice, participating in clinical and service changes

To support and contribute to delivering the wider Trust agenda as directed by the Chief Nurse and the Trust Senior Nursing and Midwifery Council.
