Telent are seeking a Survey Installation Design Engineer (Survey IDE) to join our Network Services division following an influx of work across multiple programmes. This is a hybrid role that will involve remote working, occasional attendance at Telent offices, and regular travel to customer sites across the UK. A full UK driving licence and the flexibility to travel are essential.
When you join Telent's Engineering Team, you'll be part of a high-performing group delivering complex and critical work. You'll collaborate with technical experts dedicated to building and protecting the nation's essential communications infrastructure, keeping services connected 24/7.
Role Profile:
Reporting to the Installation Design Manager, you will produce high-quality installation design documentation for Network Services projects. You'll spend most of your time working remotely or from a Telent office, supported by frequent site visits. Your primary focus will be conducting site and desktop surveys, documenting existing network cabinets, cabling, power supplies, and infrastructure to assess their suitability for proposed upgrades or installations. Full training will be provided, tailored to your existing skills and accreditations.
What You'll Do:
- Champion safe working practices and ensure all activities are fully documented.
- Contribute to a 'right first time' quality culture and deliver work compliant with BS EN installation standards.
- Produce detailed Site Survey Reports, Equipment Layout Drawings, Installation Guides, Rack Face Layouts, Cable Lists, and Label Schedules.
- Support the Installation Design Manager by managing day-to-day design requests.
- Maintain the Installation Standard Library to improve installation quality and support field teams.
- Attend project mobilisation launches and review project scopes to understand design requirements.
- Assist field service teams during installation and provide ongoing design support.
- Maintain strong knowledge of BS EN installation standards and identify scope changes promptly.
- Conduct regular site surveys in line with project schedules.
- Present your designs to internal and external stakeholders.
Who You Are:
You are a detail-oriented engineer with proven experience conducting telecoms surveys and producing installation designs. Comfortable working independently, on-site, and within a collaborative team, you bring strong communication skills, sound technical judgment, and a commitment to high-quality, compliant work. You're confident engaging with stakeholders, producing clear documentation, and supporting field teams, and you approach each project with professionalism, reliability, and a customer-focused mindset. Relevant certifications and strong IT skills will help you thrive in this role.

Key Requirements:
- Full UK clean driving licence and willingness to travel
- Experience delivering telecoms survey and installation designs
- Proficiency with MS Office applications including Excel, Visio, PowerPoint
- Demonstrable experience following BS EN installation standards
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a matrix environment
- Customer-focused with strong stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong analytical and reasoning capabilities
- Valid Baseline Personnel Security Standard Clearance
- Expert-level MS Word and Visio skills
- Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings
- CSCS card
- Awareness of CDM regulations
- City & Guilds 3668 Fibre Level 2 (desirable)
- City & Guilds 3668 Unit 3 Copper Datacoms (desirable)
